Biography of Peter Van Eyck
Born in Ostend, Belgium, Van Eyck began his acting career on the stage. He made his film debut in 1939, and went on to appear in over 100 films and television shows throughout his career.
Van Eyck was perhaps best known for his roles in the films "The Seven Year Itch" (1955) and "Ben-Hur" (1959). He also appeared in the television series "The Saint" (1962-1969) and "The Persuaders!" (1971-1972). Van Eyck was a talented actor who was able to play a wide range of roles, from villains to heroes.
Critically Acclaimed Roles
Van Eyck's performance as the villainous General Vermicelli in the 1964 film "The Dirty Dozen" is considered by many critics to be one of his best. He also received critical acclaim for his role as the Russian spymaster in the 1965 film "The Spy Who Came In from the Cold".
In addition to his work in film and television, Van Eyck also wrote several books, including "The Pilgrim" (1968) and "The Last Hour" (1971).
Personal Life
Van Eyck was married twice, first to actress Ingeborg Schöner and then to actress Ruth Gassmann. He had no children.
