Arsenal trail Champions League tie with Bayern - read the report
Arsenal will need to come from behind in the second leg of their Women's Champions League quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich after losing 1-0 in the first leg in Germany on Wednesday night.
Lina Magull scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute, giving Bayern a slender advantage heading into the second leg in London next week.
Arsenal had the better of the chances in the first half, with Frida Maanum forcing a good save from Bayern goalkeeper Laura Benkarth and Stina Blackstenius heading over from close range.
However, Bayern took the lead against the run of play when Magull was left unmarked in the Arsenal penalty area and she calmly slotted the ball past Manuela Zinsberger.
Arsenal pushed for an equalizer in the second half, but Bayern defended resolutely and held on to their lead to give themselves a good chance of reaching the semi-finals.
The second leg will be played at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday, March 30.
